Active recreation and sport opportunities help rangatahi develop into healthy adults.

We support secondary schools and wharekura (years 9 to 13) with delivering quality active recreation and sport opportunities for rangatahi to live active lives.

Regional Sports Directors Network

Auckland’s Regional Sports Directors are based with our community delivery partners and work across secondary schools and wharekura, collecting and giving research and insights-based advice, resources and networking opportunities.

Through this work, Regional Sports Directors assist schools with planning and specific projects aimed at addressing key challenges. This includes facilitating partnerships between school/wharekura and active recreation and sport organisations, ensuring valuable experiences are being designed, implemented, and accessed by rangatahi. This also includes partnering with our He Oranga Poutama team who support wharekura.

College Sport Auckland

We also work closely with College Sport Auckland. This team manages an annual calendar of inter school competitions and events, meeting the needs of rangatahi.

Youth Sport Project

From 2018 to 2020, the Youth Sport Project looked at intermediate and secondary school sport structures, athlete development practices, and assistance needed for teachers, coaches, managers and officials.

Thanks to Sport New Zealand for funding this initiative, and our community delivery partners CLM Community Sport, College Sport Auckland, Harbour Sport, Sport Auckland and Sport Waitākere for their input.
