We were thrilled to showcase some incredible community sport and physical activity mahi happening across Tāmaki Makaurau to members of the Aktive Board this week. Huge thanks to everyone who welcomed us:

West Auckland Riding for the Disabled

An inspiring visit to their amazing new indoor riding facility in Henderson — a project brought to life with support from Aktive’s Active Environments team. An incredible example of what passionate volunteers can achieve over 20+ years. Special thanks to Shirley and Norma for hosting us!

Prospect School

Principal Jasmine and PE Specialist Loren have embraced our Healthy Active Learning (a joint government initiative focused on supporting schools and kura to improve the wellbeing of tamariki and rangatahi through healthy eating and drinking and quality physical activity and curriculum delivery) and Play kaupapa beautifully, creating wonderful wellbeing outcomes for their tamariki and wider community. They’re now exploring what opening school facilities for greater community access could look like. Big mihi to our Tuia Waitākere whānau for their on the ground support, and to Sport New Zealand for the national leadership and funding that make this mahi possible.

Waterview Primary School

Principal Brett shared how their tamariki are benefiting from Water Skills for Life, facilitated by Aktive and funded by Water Safety New Zealand, Foundation North, Auckland Council, The Trusts Community Foundation and Four Winds Foundation. This year alone, 13,000 young people across our region will take part in Aktive facilitated Water Skills for Life lessons — including those at Waterview Primary.

Feeling grateful for all the partnerships, passion and people making a real difference for our communities every day.
