Korikori is our Auckland approach of working into and with schools and kura. It sees us focus on building a system across Auckland, enabling young people aged 5 to 18 years to be active through play, physical education, active recreation and sport in schools and kura.
Play is essential for growth in cognitive, physical, social and emotional development. It develops fundamental movement skills and knowledge, fosters creativity and innovation, and builds an ability to identify and manage risk.
Ensuring tamariki have the time, space and permission to play helps build a healthier and thriving Tāmaki Makaurau. Play contributes to children’s lives, as well as the wellbeing of their families, whānau and wider community.
Aktive is part of the Healthy Active Learning initiative assisting schools and kura to improve child and youth wellbeing through healthy eating and drinking, and quality physical activity.
Auckland’s Healthy Active Learning Advisors and Community Connectors are based with our System Build Partner organisations: CLM Community Sport, Harbour Sport, Sport Auckland and Sport Waitākere, and work across selected primary and intermediate schools.
This team promotes and encourages active and healthy school environments, supports health and physical education curriculum and teacher development, and facilitates community opportunities for physical activity experiences for tamariki.
Understanding and responding to rangatahi needs sits at the core of Active Recreation. We know rangatahi are more likely to take part in physical activity that they enjoy and see value in.
That’s why we work with and through partners to enhance active recreation participation opportunities for rangatahi by ensuring that rangatahi have access and opportunities to participate in and co-design quality active recreation opportunities that meet their diverse needs
