LONG-TERM PLAN ADVOCACY

Long-term Plan 2024-2034 Advocacy

The outcome of the Long-term Plan 2024-2034 process undertaken by Auckland Council provided positive results for our sector, notably:

  • Sport and Recreation Facilities Investment Fund: this fund is being retained and, moving forward, a proportion of it will be non-contestable, to enable a focus on priority projects

  • Increased investment: additional investment of $35 million over three years has been included in the Long-term Plan 2024-2034. This will mean more existing facilities can be upgraded and that new facilities can finally be built. This is a huge win, which will see more Aucklanders enjoying community sport and recreation and its wide-reaching benefits

  • Alignment with Aktive’s Regional Facility Priority Plan: this important reference will ensure funding will be directed for maximum impact and as a result, we will see a significant increase in the ability for priority community sport and recreation facility projects to be completed in a timely manner

  • Partnering for impact: conversations are taking place regarding community access and Council investment partnerships.

We believe this combination of outcomes has the potential to significantly change the game when it comes to community sport and recreation facility funding in Auckland. That’s why we have upweighted our focus on Active Environments in our 2024-2028 Strategic Plan.
