Aktive Board appoints new Chair and Trustee

Aktive Board Member Jason Shoebridge has been appointed the new Aktive Board Chair, with outgoing Chair Graham Child retiring after contributing an outstanding nine years, the maximum term, to the Board.
 
A highly experienced Chief Executive Officer, Mr Shoebridge is currently Chief Executive with the New Zealand Institute of Economic Research. His significant governance experience includes two terms as Deputy Chair of Sport New Zealand and Chair of its Audit, Finance and Risk Committee, as well as being a former Director of the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research and as a current or former trustee on the boards of a number of schools and charitable organisations.
 
Mr Shoebridge also has consulting expertise gained in leading consulting assignments across a range of industries in New Zealand and overseas. With an MBA and a Bachelor of Commerce in Economics and Finance, he is a chartered accountant and member of the Institute of Directors.
 
“Aktive is committed to continuing to work with others to tackle the play, recreation and sport opportunities and challenges in Tāmaki Makaurau but also advance the many opportunities that exist for our young people. Graham has played an instrumental role in this over his nine years and – I would like to thank him for his considerable knowledge, experience and leadership,” says Mr Shoebridge.
 
“I am looking forward to being Board Chair and building on the progress we are making towards improving physical activity opportunities for Auckland and Aucklanders. I am fortunate to have a supportive and talented Aktive Board and we are energised about the next steps in Aktive’s journey.”
 
The Board of Aktive acknowledges departing Chair Mr Child who was a member of the inaugural Auckland Sport (now Aktive) Board appointed by the Establishment Board for nine years, and Aktive Board Chair since 1 July 2018.

The Board of Aktive also welcomes Ian Olan as a Trustee from 1 November 2022. Mr Olan brings over 25 years’ international experience in business strategy, transformation and finance, after starting his career with PwC in Mexico.

 
Mr Olan has an MBA and a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Accounting and Auditing from Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla, is a Chartered Accountant and a Fellow member of CPA. He is also Chair and Director with Counties Manukau Rugby League, and a Board Member and Chair of Audit & Risk committees with Athletics New Zealand and Family Planning New Zealand.
