Our vision for Tāmaki Makaurau to be the world’s most active city is bold. We need to share a compelling narrative about why it is vitally important for our communities now and into the future.
We need to rally leaders and organisations around this compelling narrative, so it is heard and believed by key decision makers. In doing so, we will further build the value proposition of sport and physical activity and compel funders to invest into the sector because of the significant social return on investment it can make, changing lives.
We know demand outweighs supply when it comes to funding and that’s why our advocacy includes a region wide lens, emphasising where the greatest need is.
Tū Manawa Active Aotearoa (Tū Manawa) is an activation fund that supports tamariki (5-11 years) and rangatahi (12-18 years), particularly those who are less active, to access quality play, active recreation, or sport opportunities of their choice in their community or school and kura.
A wide range of organisations that provide physical activity opportunities for tamariki and rangatahi are encouraged to apply, particularly those supporting the following target groups that are known to be less active:
Our partnership with and investment with our System Build Partners CLM Community Sport, Harbour Sport, Sport Auckland and Sport Waitākere is intentional and carefully considered. Our teams work together to ensure we are achieving more for Auckland together than what we could individually.
Aktive is proud to have invested over $10.5 million into these four organisations during the 2023-2024 financial year. We have also reconfirmed our commitment to each of them for the 2024-2026 period with new partnership investment agreements which we are confident will see our positive momentum in serving Auckland continue.
During the 2024-2026 period, Aktive’s investment into our System Build Partners sees them focusing their resources and efforts largely in the following Communities of Activity:
CLM Community Sport
Harbour Sport
Sport Auckland
Sport Waitākere
As advocates for sport, recreation and physical activity across Tāmaki Makaurau, our role is to champion the rights and needs of our growing, diverse region.
We believe it is critical to prioritise the support and provision for sport and recreation in plans for how and where Auckland will grow. This is particularly important given that the region’s current population of around 1.6 million people could grow by another 740,000 people over the next 30 years to reach 2.4 million (The Auckland Plan 2050, Auckland Council).
We work hard to influence policy, funding and strategy, and to design and lead advocacy-related resources and campaigns for the sector.
We also share what we know in this space to help the sector and communities advocate effectively for their needs.
