Kia ora all
You will have read and heard a lot about Coronavirus (COVID-19). This has widespread implications across every part of our daily interactions, including recreational and sport-related activities. It is important to note that while the Government is emphasising the seriousness of this situation, they are also urging a calm response.
Key information channels
Further to our communication dated 3 March 2020, we have been fielding a number of enquiries from the Auckland sport & recreation sector. To assist, we have taken the opportunity to share below a list of organisations that are best placed to provide informed, timely information:
- Ministry of Health
- Sport New Zealand
General information and help for the sport, recreation and play sector, including links to other sources
- High Performance Sport New Zealand
- Regional or National Sporting Organisation
Please consult your respective National or Regional Sporting Organisation, for specific information relevant to each sport code.
Over this time, we encourage you to communicate with your clubs or organisation members about this unfolding situation and how it may affect club-related activities, games and events. It would also be pertinent to share appropriate health and hygiene related messages. The Ministry of Health guidelines are available here.
We are following this advice and continue to monitor how this situation develops. We are committed to protecting the health and wellbeing of our people and communities so encourage you to review this information on how to look after yourself and your colleagues during this time.
Business in a different way
At Aktive, we are employing a number of ways to minimise social contact while still doing our mahi. Like many organisations, we are encouraging virtual meetings where possible, and any workshops, seminars, conferences etc that we are attending or running are being evaluated on a case by case basis.
A number of sporting events (school, community, regional, national and international) have been cancelled to date. We expect this to continue.
We’re sure you will agree that an important part of our mahi is to keep Auckland active through this difficult period and our collective work is vital in doing that – in some cases we may need to find new ways to do this.
At Aktive, we have also developed a Temporary Operating Policy and Procedure for our team, which we have attached for your reference and use.
Here to help
Like so many others, the sport and physical activity sector has already been significantly challenged by COVID-19 and this is likely to continue in the weeks and months ahead.
We will continue to monitor this situation, take into account all the advice and intelligence we receive, and provide updates as and when information becomes available. Our team is also here to assist in various capacities, including shared services support.
This situation is unprecedented in New Zealand and around the world. Please take care of yourselves and your whanau during this time and check in with those around you. This is a time of significant change that’s likely to create some anxiety, which can be particularly hard for vulnerable people in our communities.
Let’s work together to look after each other.
