Caring, Sharing...and Chairing
Aktive has created a new initiative - the Chairs Roundtable - hosted by partners Simpson Grierson, and supported by Sheffield and Sport NZ, providing a panel discussion featuring experienced professional chairs from within the sector sharing their knowledge.
Shared Stories Vital
With no regular forum available, chairs of national and regional sports bodies can be isolated and risk a narrow base of knowledge and skills coming only from within their own codes - until now. Chairs Roundtable sets up to share individual experiences and insights from some of the best sports leaders in the country, as well as their mistakes and the pitfalls awaiting those who put their hands up to lead.
Leadership from the Top
It has been said, "get the head right and the tail will follow", and there is no doubt that a high-functioning Board with a skilled chair is a key component of overall organisational success. Useful frameworks, good-practice models and training are available, from Sport NZ, and from the Institute of Directors. Aktive has partnered with Sheffield to create a sector-specific Leadership in Sport workshop which will to bring to the fore the human skills required in effective leadership of a Board.
Future Plans Set
With excellent feedback ratings and comments that the Chairs Roundtable fills a long-empty void, Aktive is committed to ensuring the validity and value-add that the Chairs Roundtable brings to the largely volunteer group leading our sport and recreation organisations.
