The Auckland Plan could be considered to be one of the key founding documents for the supercity. It sets out the highest level of goals, outcomes and strategies for the period through to 2040, during which the population is predicted to increase by two-thirds.
Following consultation, the initial draft was amended to include a new Chapter 5 dedicated to sport and recreation, which remains a key set of statements that will underpin other consequent strategies, plans and budgets throughout the period.
It is the Auckland Plan that sets out the important ambition of Auckland being the ‘world’s most liveable city’, and in Chapter 5 the role of sport and recreation in helping to achieve that is established.
Aktive will continue to use the Auckland Plan and particularly Chapter 5 as it presses the case for investment in sport and recreation infrastructure and programmes.
