Aktive is a fully participating member of OneVoice, the independent sport and recreation sector advisory group established in 2010 and recognised by the Mayor’s Office and Council as an important consultative group.
OneVoice played a prominent role in advocacy that led to the creation of a specific sport and recreation chapter in the Auckland Plan, and has been active since its formation in providing an independent table for Council to seek input on behalf of the sector in the early stages of considering plans and policies.
It has been a frequent submitter and presenter in informal and formal settings to Council plans and policies such as the Auckland Plan, the Long Term Plan 2011-21 and 2015-2025 Public Open Space Strategy (POSSAP), and the Auckland Sport and Recreation Strategic Action Plan (ASRSAP) of which it is now a co-sponsor and collaborator in delivery stages.
Its strength lies in the collaborative approach which draws together representatives from Council, Sport NZ, Aktive, Local RSTs, The Auckland Sports Coalition, NZ Recreation Association, He Oranga Poutama, Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Education. It is chaired by former Black Cap and former Manukau City Council Deputy Mayor Gary Troup.
