Aktive provides organisational support to the Auckland Sports Coalition, formed in 2009 as a representative and advocacy group for Regional Sports Organisations (RSOs) across Auckland.
Since its inception the ASC has organised and run forums for learning and development for its members, has advocated for the sector in informal settings, made formal submissions and presentations to important Council policies and plans, and has held two permanent places in the independent wider sector advocacy group, OneVoice.
The ASC has been an important part of the success of the sport and recreation sector in being recognised as one of the most effective influencers of major planning and policy documents since Auckland Council was formed in 2010.
The ASC has 53 RSO members collectively representing over 400,000 active participants in organised sport across Auckland. A small volunteer Executive sets work plans and agenda, and is elected from the membership base.
ASC Executive: Murray Lockwood (Gymsports NZ) (Chair), Gillian Magerkorth (Auckland Orienteering), Phil Vyver (Auckland Bowls), Riki Burgess (Harbour Hockey), Mark Cameron (Auckland Cricket), Julie Paterson (Netball Northern).
Membership is free.
